Transport Description
In 2004, the Middelkoop family firm will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
It is fantastic that our 81-year-old mother(in-law) will witness
the century celebrations. At the age of 18, she took over management
of the company, piloting the firm through a difficult period. Middelkoop
has grown from being only a haulier to an all-round logistics service
provider. Recently, our capacity at Beverwijk has more than doubled.
We are situated directly next to the future inland shipping terminal.
We are extremely confident about the future.
Middelkoop - 100 years of activity
On 1 April 1904 Jan Middelkoop started as a haulier. When his son
Jan joined the company, they began trading in their horse and buggies
for Model T Fords. Jan Middelkoop died in 1939. His son died a year
later and his 18-year-old daughter Roel, took over the helm. Together
with her brother Henk, she piloted the company through the war years.
In 1954, she received assistance from Jaap Kiebert, whom she married
that same year. In the late 1960s Middelkoop opened a branch at
Roermond in order to continue servicing its regular customer, Rockwool.
With the arrival of Yvon and Hans Blauwen in 1984, Middelkoop developed
into fully-fledged partner in the field of road transport and transhipping,
along with the related logistical services and administrative support.
In the early 1990s, the company moved from its premises on the Koningstraat
to the Industrieweg. Seven years later, it moved to newly built
premises on the Lijndenweg.
Complete logistical services
Besides its transport activities, Middelkoop is a partner in solving
logistical problems. In addition to European transport, Middelkoop
also offers storage and transhipment facilities including order
picking, transport on demand and administrative support. In short,
a made-to-measure logistical formula. Middelkoop also has its share
of consumer business. It arranges hundreds of removals every year.
Middelkoop has over 15,000 m2 of storage sheds and outdoor storage
at Beverwijk and 10,000 m2 at Roermond. The current transport fleet
contains 50 multifunctional lorries. All in all, the company has
sufficient space and capacity to meet its customers' needs. Middelkoop
combines its strengths. The company is a shareholder in the IJmond
Transport Group - a unique collaboration among 70 transport companies
in the Beverwijk region. This collaboration makes it possible to
solve any logistical problem that any customer may have, with the
necessary scale. This is just one way in which Middelkoop builds
longlasting relationships and can proudly call itself the regular
haulier of firms such as Corus, mineral wool manufacturer Rockwool,
Total, Kardex and Airspray
